After standing on the roof of the world atop Mount Everest in May 2006, Rob and Katrina set their sites on another kind of summit... standing at the most northerly point on the planet... the Geographic North Pole located at 90 degrees true north! POLE TO POLE- THE TRIP TO THE TOP One of the trickiest bits of planning this trip to the pole was figuring out exactly where to start. For all kinds of natural reasons the 'worldabove' is in a constant state of flux. Ice floes and ice packs move significant distances and it wasn't until we landed at Barneo Ice Station that we had an exact idea of how far we would have to ski. It turned out to be almost a whole parallel, or 125kms from the 89th to the 90th degree. TRAVEL TIPS: SUNSCREEN AND SCARF: We travelled during the arctic summer and the sun never set during our stay. That said, we still experienced temperatures as low as -45 C (bitter winds however made it feel a great deal colder!).
